Hi! I’m Beck.
I’m a Florida-born Southern gal clinging to my roots while navigating big city living in SoCal. Once upon a time, I served in the Air Force, worked as a government contractor, and did the whole school thing. I have a bachelor’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies and a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. I don’t really use either of those things, because…I make pretty stuff all day long.
– fonts & flowers & my family
– calligraphy & coffee & chocolate & charcuterie boards
– wine & whisky & watercolor
– travel & typography & tattoos
– beer & branding & being my own boss
I’m the Creative Director of a small family-based graphic design company. I’m so fortunate and thankful to have a wonderful family & team that stand behind me. Because of them, I’ve got a little time to keep my creative energy going here!
Lettering was something I always wanted to do. Back in the day, I had a fountain pen and those little felt-tipped calligraphy markers. I sucked, and didn’t really know how to get better. I always changed up my own handwriting in school. Girls, remember when it used to be cool to make your lowercase letter “y” do some funky little bouncy thing? Yeah, I did that.
Once I started this whole design gig that relied heavily on my creativity, I found myself burning out really quickly. So, I picked up lettering again. I practiced, and still sucked. And then, wouldn’t you know…I started getting better the more I practiced. I found my way to font design, and started dabbling in everything in between.
I dig the idea of having my own little corner of the internet where I do what I want to do. Everything you see here is because there was something in my life & travels that inspired it. Each font has a little bit of a story behind the name, or some little memory attached to it. Each shirt or mug you see was lettered by me…and I’m selling only the things that I’d wear or use myself.
I don’t think I’m cool. I’m actually pretty geeky and a little introverted. But, I do get excited about some things, and this is one of them. I figure if I get excited about it, someone else might, too — I’m all about sharing the wealth, my friends. Life is too short to not get excited about the things you love.
I fancy myself a blogger — the truth is, I have so many ideas that sometimes blogging falls by the wayside. I’ve resolved to be better at this, and have even created The Beck List as a means of combining a few things I’m ultra passionate about — travel, new experiences, and goals. It’s accountability in a few different ways. The Beck List is my “passion project” — it’s something that I get to keep chipping away at, and something that inspires me in every area of my life.
I’m a rock fan — I love a good show, and I feel it in my core. To date, the best show I’ve ever been to was a Shinedown show. In their song, Diamond Eyes, they say, “You’ll never be great without taking a chance.” These are my words to live by.
