So, it’s a Sunday, and it’s a beer day. (But really, what day isn’t a beer day?) My hubs was outside brewing, and we had plans to hit a local spot, Chapman Crafted, and get some of the best brisket ever from Offset BBQ. I decided I’d embark on my first heat transfer vinyl (HTV) project ever, since I had a shoot planned for June… and I definitely wanted to use one of the SVG files I’d handlettered – it says, “The Only Thing Holding My Shit Together Is This Bag.” I don’t even know why — apart from the fact that it’s hilarious and honest — but it’s become one of my most popular SVGs!
At any rate, I had just a bit of time, and since the SVG is tote bag themed, it had to go on … you guessed it … a tote bag. (It just wouldn’t make sense otherwise, right?)
And so begins the story of The Only Thing Holding My Shit Together is This Bag SVG. It was basically a comedy of errors, but I wound up getting my shit together (see what I did there) and it was a success!
I’d already set my mind to getting this thing done and giving it a try, so imagine my surprise when I didn’t have any HTV on hand!! I facepalmed over it, and swore up and down that I’d ordered HTV or had some on hand. Why else would I plan out projects that I could blog about without having the supplies? I hopped on to Amazon and ordered up some HTV, kicking myself for my lack of preparedness.
I ran through my vinyl stash one last time.
Turns out, I did have HTV, but it was all … ugh … glitter.
Have I mentioned that I despise glitter? Absolutely abhor it. I’m a simple gal. I like black, white, and gray. I’d intended to do white lettering on the black tote bag, because that’s totally my speed. But nope. Glitter. What the actual hell.
I was sure that it was going to be a total mess and that I’d be cleaning glitter from my desk for weeks. I’m happy to report that it was NOT the case! The glitter sheets I used didn’t shed (?!) glitter everywhere. It didn’t even stick to my fingers! Sweet! I also learned that glitter HTV is super easy to weed. Because the glitter HTV is so thick, you really don’t even need to use a weeding tool if your design is large enough and not super intricate.
Also, I had to Google how to use HTV, haha. I’m so bad at this. I skimmed a blog post, and it seemed pretty simple and straight forward. The project wound up going off without a hitch, thankfully!
So, I didn’t measure any of this shit. Full disclosure. I’m a bad crafter. I just eyeballed it, and whenever I was happy with the placement, I decided to roll with it. This was my first time using my little Cricut mini thing – it’s super cute and easy to use. It’s called an EasyPress Mini, but I’ll just go with “little Cricut mini thing” because it’s easier for me to remember that.
Anyway, it’s cute, right?
