Does it sound as corny to you as it does to me? I’ve always wanted to spot whales from land. Why? I don’t know. It’s just really cool, ok? I’ve been whale watching before, out on the water. That was neat. And growing up in Florida, it was no big deal to spot dolphin in our rivers and on the coast. Same with sharks. But whales? Never.
We did a brief trip to Portland in September 2017, and I ran my mouth the entire time about how I wished I’d see a whale as we were driving along the coast. Admittedly, any time we drive the coast out here in Cali, which is a stone’s throw from our house, I say the same. It’s a little less likely here, though.
So, potentially long story short, we saw whales a few times on our trip. Badass! We stopped at Devil’s Churn and I saw some there…but as we were driving back to Portland, through Depoe Bay, I saw whales out there. We stopped. And I got crappy pictures of it. That little black spot next to the boat is a whale tail. I think that there were at least 4-5 whales out there that day, too!
