September started out quietly, and ended in an epic fashion!
For the most part, we had a fairly quiet beginning of September, probably in preparation for our trip later in the month. We managed to make it down to Orange for the International Festival that they hold every September. It was crowded. Like, crazily crowded. So, as you can imagine, we didn’t stay for too long. We only really decided to go so that we could get out of the house for a bit. Rather than stick around, waiting in long lines, and get sunburned shoulders, we opted to head to Hoparazzi for a few brews.
Jeff and I celebrated our fifth anniversary by going to Scotland. No biggie, right? It deserves a totally separate blog post, so I’m going to keep our trip abroad hush-hush until I have time to write about ALL of the amazeballs stuff we did. For now, you can check out the lovely scenery we were forced to look at while we were on our trip with my “Byeee September” graphic. 🙂
So, how do most people with insane pre-travel restlessness prepare for a big trip? I don’t really know, because I don’t think we’re “most people” — I would assume they probably make lists, start packing, and maybe rest up? No, not us. We drove up to Santa Barbara about a week and a half before we left for our trip, haha. We’d intended on going up to Ragged Point on the coast, but we only made it to Santa Barbara before we had visions of nightmarish traffic on our drive back.
We grabbed lunch at the cutest place in Santa Barbara called Yellow Belly Tap. I had a chicken sandwich, and Jeff + Kate had their grilled cheese. It was all delicious, and they had a small, but interesting tap list, too. I’d definitely eat there again.
Our dreamy Scotland trip happened, which is by far the biggest travel news of all, like I mentioned before. Because I just can’t wait to tell you…some of the highlights include:
- Our first visit to Wales (dreamy!)
- A lot of castles
- Last minute changes that completely made our trip even cooler
- Distilleries! Whisky & gin!
- And beautiful scenery.
I didn’t release any new fonts this month, can you believe it? I’ve actually been furiously working on some new releases, but have decided to wait until the new year to program, brand, and release them. I think I need a creative breather once in a while, and September started out chock-full of ideas to develop. Giving myself permission to take a break has really cleared my head, and I have a lot of exciting things that I’m looking forward to developing over the coming months.
One of those ideas … well, many of those ideas … is for this little gig here. I have a lot of goals that have a common tie — fonts, somehow — and a lot of things I want to do and see materialize. I’ve been planning out blog posts, new font ideas, and thinking about how I can take two of the things I love most — fonts + travel — and merge them into a central blog. Lifestyle seems to be the most likely answer here, so I’m just going to roll with it and see how things start playing out over the next few months!
Looking ahead this October… and November, and December… I’m looking forward to cooler weather (hopefully) and the holidays!
My dad’s coming back out at the end of October, so we’re pretty jazzed to hang with him again — we’ll be scouting some new breweries in the coming weeks before his visit. And, one of my longtime friends, Mary, will be in town in November!
Keep an eye out for Scotland blogs shortly, y’all. I’m so excited to tell you about my trip! Happy October!
