Jeffrey and I just got back from Portland on Tuesday! We took a short weekend trip for our anniversary, but let’s be real — it was also a bit of a recharge for both of us. Running a business is not for the faint of heart! This was legitimately the first trip we’ve taken in years that wasn’t a family trip or for the holidays. And believe it or not, we were disconnected from the business at least half of the time! It was a huge feat for both of us.
We stayed in Portland for our first night, and did a little pub crawl of our own — Deschutes, Fat Head, and then Rogue — before calling it a day. The part of the trip I was most excited about was heading to the Oregon Coast — I’d been once before, and always wished I’d spent more time there just taking in everything around me. As we were heading to our destination in Newport, we stopped off in Tillamook to see the air museum.
I fell in love with Newport just a little bit, if I’m being honest. I don’t know if it was the small town feel, the scenery, the state parks basically everywhere…or Rogue…?? Probably mostly the scenery, and my favorite part had to be the beaches, right next to the forest. There is something that will never get old about looking out at the waves, and then doing a 180 turn to face a creek coming out of the mountains, tall trees, and abundant green.
I always like to say, “I want one of those.” any time there’s something that I like, love, or need more of in my life. That view, though. I want one of those.
It doesn’t have to be Newport, or even on the west coast. It likely won’t be anywhere near it, and that’s totally ok!
Being away from the grind, at least partially, made me consider a bit about how I want to run this little font side hustle of mine. I eventually want for this to not be a side hustle — I want this to be a second full-time gig that does amazeballs things for me and my family. Starting my font journey, I said that I would be putting away everything I make so that we can buy a house back on the east coast after all of the kids have graduated, and I still intend to work toward that! I also want to travel, see the world, book an around-the-world cruise… ya know, all of that stuff.
At any rate, keep an eye out for some new fonts soon! I feel recharged, and I’m in full on create mode!
